thai yoga bodywork.
Thai yoga bodywork (also known as "Thai Massage" or "Thai Bodywork") is an ancient healing art from Thailand that combines assisted yoga stretching, massage, acupressure, reflexology, and aromatherapy. It's often referred to as "the lazy man's yoga" because you get an entire workout without having to move your own muscles! The benefits are numerous:
- Alleviates stress, creating a sense of deep relaxation and bliss
- Releases muscle tension and pain
- Improves body alignment allowing for better posture and energy flow
- Increases flexibility and mobility of muscles and joints
- Improves blood circulation and boosts immune system
- Dissolves energy blockages
- Balances hormones
- Detoxifies and cleanses the body
- Improves health and overall well-being
Certified in the Chang Mai tradition, I had a beautiful opportunity to learn from Chock Petchprom, a master who grew up on a monastery in Thailand healing local villagers and Buddhist monks with Thai massage and herbal treatments. While the majority of us spent our teens at the movies and the mall, Chock spent his afternoons collecting herbs and hunting tigers in the jungle...I'm still waiting for his amazing life story to appear on the bookshelves. He and his wife are moving back to Thailand to open an International Thai Massage School.
Sessions take place on the floor with clients wearing comfortable, loose-fitted clothing. I offer private sessions at my home studio in Turtle Creek and on Tuesdays & Sundays at Priya Yoga in Lakewood. Rates below are based on private sessions (one-to-one), couples sessions (2 bodyworkers), & "thai for two" or "thai yoga parties" (create your own private workshop where you'll learn to give & receive this sacred, healing art). Contact me to set up your session!
